The Faculty of Clinical Informatics (FCI) has been established to give professional leadership to Clinical Informaticians within the UK. Membership will encompass health and social care professionals who utilise their specialist knowledge through data, information and information technology to ensure safe, effective and efficient person-centred care.
Following a hugely successful initial recruitment of Founding Fellows during 2017, we enlisted over double the expected opening total. As of May 2018, we will have elected the first Council and Officers of the Faculty; this milestone in our development means that we are once again open to applications for the next round of Fellows to join our growing membership cohort.
There are a set of criteria (outlined below) that distinguish those eligible to apply to become a Fellow. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Faculty but feel do not meet these criteria, we will be launching a recruitment for other membership categories later in 2018. Details on eligibility and dates will be released on this website and through our social media channels closer to the time. Please do register your interest, if you would like to be kept up-to-date with the Faculty’s development.
Applications to become a Fellow must be submitted via email by midnight on 31 May 2018, following the FCI Fellowship application process, using the Application Form. Please note that the membership fee to become a Fellow is £250. Each application will be assessed according to four criteria:
- Demonstration of experiential exposure to clinical informatics in the workplace, through direct care, research, development, education, leadership or policy.
- Demonstration of major contributions to the advancement of clinical informatics in the UK or internationally.
- Demonstration of leadership and/or national recognition in the field.
- Demonstrable commitment to the advancement of clinical informatics in the UK.
An expert Fellowship Panel has been established to score each application received. It is not expected that all criteria will be met but the overall contribution will be assessed.
The FCI Council will approve the final list before any announcements are made in July 2018.
I’m sure you’ll agree this is an exciting time during our journey to establish the UK’s first Clinical Informatics membership body and we’d all like to wish you the very best of luck with your application.
Membership of Fellowship Panel
The Fellowship Panel is independently Chaired by Professor Don Detmer, University of Virginia, (Past-President of American Medical Informatics Association) and all members are Founding Fellows of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics and professionals, with established reputation in informatics in the UK.
