The Faculty of Clinical Informatics is thrilled to announce the recent launch of the FCI Early Career Group, the first of the Faculty’s Special Interest Groups (SIG).
The SIG was set up by a group of Faculty members in the early stages of their career who wanted to bring together early career informaticians like themselves, represent their interests, and offer educational opportunities and skill sharing.
The Early Careers Group held its first event last Thursday 4th July, hosting a very successful Twitter chat. This chat was set up to engage interested health and social care professionals, find out what they would like to see from the group going forward and to help establish what the group should focus on. A launch event will be happening later in summer, so watch this space for further details!
Most importantly, you must be a Faculty member to join the Early Career Group! Applications are now open.
James Maguire, one of the founders of the Early Career Group and Clinical Advisor in Digital Innovation & AI at NHSX, has provided more information about the group below:
The number of clinicians starting out a career in clinical informatics is increasing and the routes into the specialty are extremely varied. Whilst groups exist for clinicians in other specialties, there is currently no group to represent or support people on their first steps into clinical informatics.
Why should I join the Early Career Group?
Once we’re set up the aim is that we’ll meet regularly and develop a programme of regular events. As we develop, we hope there will be opportunities to get involved in the wider work FCI is doing when required.
How do I hear more about the Early Career Group?
To ensure you hear about the group as it develops, please sign up for updates via the ‘Register Your Interest’ form here.
Please also follow us on Twitter @EarlyCareerFCI.
We will also post updates on the Discourse platform (https://discourse.digitalhealth.net/c/fci-fellows)
The group wants to be inclusive. If you are at an early point in your clinical informatics career and want to join the group, then we will welcome you with open arms – regardless of your clinical experience or background.
Do I need to be an FCI Member to join?
Yes – FCI membership is open again between 5 June until 1 August 2019. To join the Early Career Group you’ll need to apply to become a member of the FCI (either as an FCI Associate or Member).
Do I need to be an FCI Member to register my interest?
No – anyone can register their interest in the Early Career Group, however joining the FCI is important if you want to get more involved or formally join the group in the future.
