Faculty of Clinical Informatics Launches CPD Accreditation Scheme

The Faculty of Clinical Informatics has launched a CPD Accreditation service for clinical informatics training courses and conferences

One of the core aims of the Faculty is to ensure that there is appropriate education available in the arena of clinical informatics and to signal that any such training is being delivered to an appropriate standard. As part of this objective, the Faculty have launched a CPD Accreditation service.

The process was developed using an outline set of accreditation indicators, based on the AoMRC standards, and then piloted with two courses – the Newcastle University Institute of Coding health informatics CPD programme for trainee doctors and our own Faculty of Clinical Informatics Members Conference. These courses were reviewed by volunteer assessors from the Faculty, who identified a number of things that we could improve and simplify. Additionally, both of the courses were approved – congratulations to both!

FCI CPD accreditation is available for clinical informatics learning resources covering all health and social care disciplines, including:

  • Virtual (e-learning) and face to face training, plus blended courses combining both
  • Educational events, including sessions in conferences with educational content
  • Other learning resources, such as specific articles in journals and books, with educational content

Download the application form and find out more about the criteria, process and costs on our CPD accreditation page.

Our sincere thanks go to the assessors for their time and expertise, and to the pilot course organisers for providing us with the necessary information. The Faculty would also like to thank Ann Slee, Vice Chair of the Education and Standards Committee, for her hard work on this.

Look out for the Faculty of Clinical Informatics accreditation sign when you are attending events and please do let organisers know that this service is now available.
