Council and Chair of Council Elections

Current council members’ terms of office are 2 years and end in May 2020, except for Executive Officers who have a three year term, ending in May 2021.  This means 8 out of 12 Council seats are up for election. In addition the Chair of Council will be stepping down and so there will also be an election of a new Chair.

Membership of the Council is open to both Fellows and Members and we are very keen to encourage diversity and representation across disciplines and across the four nations. The procedures for applying for a position on the Faculty Council are set out below. The Council elections will be supported by the Electoral Reform Society (ERS). The ERS manage around 4,000 membership body elections each year, using a secure website hosted within their premises in the UK.  The benefit of using an independent organization is to ensure that elections are seen to be open and transparent.

Council has delegated responsibility for setting professional strategy and making decisions about professional policy for the Faculty and clinical informatics profession.  Council terms of reference can be found here.

If you would like to stand for a seat on the Council, please provide a profile, using the nomination form. The nomination form should be sent to by 5pm on Friday 6th March 2020.

FCI staff will verify eligibility of nominees for Council membership (i.e. Fellows and Members who have paid their subscriptions) and an online ballot will be set up by ERS.  All Fellows and Members who have paid their subscriptions will be sent an email with a link to the ballot to enable them to vote for nominees. ERS will send the election results to the Faculty and Council members will be notified and details published on the Faculty website in May 2020.

The Chair of Council election will be carried out in parallel with the election of Council members. The Chair of Council position is open to Fellows only.  A role description can be found here.  If you would like to stand for Chair of Council, please provide a profile using the nomination form.  The nomination form should be sent to by 5pm on Friday 6th March 2020.
